Call your representative
A phone call to a district office carries more weight than an email, and far more than a petition signature. Staff log the subject and the position of every call, and those tallies go to the Member. Email is the fallback, not the first move.
Step one — reach the office

Call the district or State office rather than the Washington one where you can. They are less swamped and the call is logged the same way. If you reach voicemail, leave the same message.
Step two — what to say
Sixty seconds is plenty. Give your town or ZIP so they can log you as a constituent, name the bill, and state your position.
- Hi, my name is [your name] and I'm a constituent in [your town or ZIP].
- I'm calling to ask the [Representative / Senator] to support the Public Service Integrity Act.
- It pays Members of Congress ten times the median household income and continues that pay for ten years after they leave office, and in exchange bans all outside income during service and for that whole ten years.
- The increase costs about the price of a cup of coffee per American per year, and if the restrictions are ever struck down the pay raise dies with them.
